Year 5 – Dividing by 10, 100, 1000

Today in our maths learning, we revisited the concept of dividing numbers by 10, 100, 1000. We used place value grids and rehearsed the stem sentence:
When we divide by ______ our digits move _____ spaces to the right.

Once we had completed some calculations with our partner, we had a go at Rally Coach. This is when one of the partners becomes the coach and the other the pupil. We challenged each other using equations.

Perimeter and Area in Year 5

Today, we used our maths knowledge to complete an investigation on area and perimeter.

We know that although the perimeter and the area will be ‘numerically equal’, that is, the same number, they are not the same measurement because the perimeter will be measured in units of length, such as centimetres (cm), while the area will be measured in square units, such as square centimetres (cm2).
