Multiplying 3-digit equations

Last week in maths, Year 5 Emerald Class looked at how to pair 2 numbers in a 3 digit equation to make it easier to calculate.

After, we looked at how we can simplify 2 number equations where one number is larger. We did this by looking at the factors of the larger number.

History of NSPCC Number Day

Today, we have ‘Dressed up for Digits’ and participated in various math-related activities to raise funds to support the NSPCC’s (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) crucial work.

History of NSPCC Number Day

NSPCC Number Day was first introduced by the NSPCC in 1999 as a fun and educational way to raise funds for their charity. Since then, it has grown in popularity and has become an annual event celebrated by schools and organizations across the UK.

The NSPCC, founded in 1884, has been working tirelessly to protect children from abuse and provide essential support to those in need. NSPCC Number Day is one of the ways the organization raises funds to continue its critical work.

During our day, we completed some NSPCC themed maths challenges including trying to crack a tricky code! Year 4 faced each other in a multiplication competition and KS2 took part in the TTRockstars tournament – NSPCC ROCKS! Check back in next week to see our winners! And we will let you know how much we raised very soon.

We had lots of fun with numbers today while remembering that we were raising money for the NSPCC and remembering that not all children have their rights adhered to.

Year 5 – Dividing by 10, 100, 1000

Today in our maths learning, we revisited the concept of dividing numbers by 10, 100, 1000. We used place value grids and rehearsed the stem sentence:
When we divide by ______ our digits move _____ spaces to the right.

Once we had completed some calculations with our partner, we had a go at Rally Coach. This is when one of the partners becomes the coach and the other the pupil. We challenged each other using equations.
